Job Title: Senior Machine Learning Engineer / Applied Data Scientist

Role Overview

Help developers and teams focus, create, and collaborate. Take ideas from concept to production, working across data, product, and engineering. High-ownership role: frame ambiguous problems, explore data, build models or heuristics, integrate with systems, measure outcomes, and iterate quickly. Practical impact, traction, and speed of learning are key.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-value opportunities from product, customer, and operational data
• Evaluate ambiguous ideas quickly to determine feasibility and value
• Build practical 80/20 solutions that create leverage, then refine based on traction
• Own end-to-end execution: data exploration, modeling, experimentation, backend integration, and productization
• Partner with engineering, product, design, and leadership to turn ideas into shipped capabilities
• Use ML, analytics, heuristics, and automation pragmatically
• Define success metrics, instrument outcomes, and improve based on real-world usage
• Shape how GitKraken uses AI and data to improve developer workflows and product experience

Tech Stack

• Languages: Python, Go, TypeScript
• Data & Infrastructure: Snowflake, AWS, Datadog
• AI Ecosystem: Cursor, Claude Code, Codex

Requirements

• Deep experience in ML, applied AI, or a hands-on product data role at Senior level
• Track record of shipping data/ML-powered capabilities into real products
• Comfort with messy problems and practical execution without structure
• Ability to work across the stack (not just notebooks)
• Strong product judgment and bias toward simple, measurable solutions
• Experience deciding if a problem needs ML, rules, analytics, automation, or workflow design
• Balance speed and rigor; know when "good enough to learn" is right
• Strong communication skills; explain tradeoffs to technical/non-technical partners
• Ownership mindset: don't wait for perfect specs; follow through from idea to impact
