Description

The incumbent assists the Child Life Specialist in organizing and implementing recreational activities for pediatric patients to meet their developmental needs.

Responsibilities
  1. Obtains census report from Nursing and coordinates different age groups activities as appropriate.
  2. Organizes the activity room with age appropriate toys/ equipment and provides group activities under the supervision of the Child Life Specialist. 
  3. Assists in coordinating special programs for patients such as pet therapy, meditation, close-circuit television, knitting, parties, and other special events/services.
  4. Maintains activity rooms in a clean, neat and orderly manner.
  5. Assures all toys/equipment are utilized in a proper and safe manner; broken or faulty toys are reported immediately to the appropriate party.
  6. Assists the Child Life Specialist in requesting and maintaining toys/ equipment in the activity rooms.
  7. Promotes a children friendly environment on unit.
  8. Follows infection control policies and procedures relative to toys/ equipment cleaning and lending.
  9. Provides emotional support for families/caregivers and provides developmental support for children. 
  10. Provides guidance to volunteers in the activity rooms as needed.
  11. Observes children’s behavior and communicates any pertinent information to the supervising Child Life Specialist.
  12. Assists in determining whether the needs of individual children should be attended to by medical professionals.
  13. Hands out materials to patients per policy.
  14. Attends Child Life meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED required/BA preferred
  • 3 months experience minimum in working with special needs children and their families.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $20.4567 - $30.685 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
